Large and custom shed builders
Big acreage sheds, workshops, caravan and boat storage and one-off designs that go well past a standard garage.
A large custom shed on an acreage block sits between a garage and a commercial building. It's usually a Class 10a building on residential land, so residential rules such as siting setbacks and QBCC Home Warranty Insurance apply, but the size and door heights are closer to a commercial job.
The builders below list large, custom or acreage sheds. Most can design to your dimensions rather than selling from a fixed range.
What to check
Height for caravans and boats
A caravan or boat bay needs a taller door and eave height than a standard garage. Measure the tallest item with any roof gear before asking for quotes.
Siting and approvals
Council setbacks, site cover limits and flood overlays can limit size and placement on acreage lots. Sort these out before you finalise the design.
Home warranty
Residential outbuildings with a roof generally need QBCC Home Warranty Insurance when the work is over $3,300. Owner-builder work isn't covered.
Mezzanines and fit-out
Mezzanines, insulation, whirlybirds, lining and power add up. Ask for them as separate line items so you can compare quotes properly.

FAQ
Common questions
How big can a shed be on an acreage block?
It depends on your council's planning scheme, the zone, site cover limits and setbacks. Many large acreage sheds need building approval and some need planning approval as well. A builder or private certifier can check your lot.
Does a large residential shed need home warranty insurance?
Generally, yes. QBCC Home Warranty Insurance applies to most residential building work over $3,300, including residential outbuildings with a roof such as garages and large sheds. Owner-builder work isn't covered.
Should I buy a kit or have the shed built?
A kit is cheaper up front but you organise the slab, erection and approvals. Having it built costs more but puts one licensed company in charge. For large sheds, many buyers choose supply and build for the warranty and simplicity.
