Rural and farm shed builders
Machinery, hay and storage sheds for working properties, sized around your biggest machine and your wind region.
Farm sheds are usually large, simple buildings with open bays or big doors, so the cost is driven by size, wind rating and how much of the build you take on yourself. Many shed companies sell farm sheds as engineered kits, and some will also lay the slab and erect the shed.
The builders below list rural or farm sheds in their range. Coastal Queensland further north sits in the cyclonic wind regions, which means heavier steel and higher prices than an equivalent shed inland.
What to check
Bay width and door height
Size the bays and doors to your largest machine with room to manoeuvre. Raising the eave height later isn't practical.
Wind region and site
The engineering should state the wind region and terrain category for your site. Get every quote engineered to the same rating.
Open bays or enclosed
Open-bay hay and machinery sheds cost less but need the right bracing. Enclosing bays later may need new engineering, so decide early.
Kit or built
Many farm sheds are bought as kits and erected by the owner or a local erector. If you want it built, check who holds the licence and whether the slab is included.

FAQ
Common questions
How much does a farm shed cost?
Published engineered kit prices start around $30,000 for a 9 × 24 m farm and machinery shed and $51,000 for a 30 × 12 m farm shed, before slab and erection. Industry guides put kit-only machinery and hay sheds at about $115 to $160 per m².
Do farm sheds need council approval in Queensland?
In most cases, yes. Building approval exemptions only cover very small sheds. Your council's planning scheme may also apply on rural land, so check with the builder or a private certifier before you order.
What is ShedSafe?
ShedSafe is an accreditation program run by the Australian Steel Institute. It checks a shed company's engineering, steel products and site specification against the National Construction Code.
